The Inventive Eye: Observation, Transformation, and the Art of Seeing.”                                                            

Artists are invited to submit work interpreting the exhibit title (above) for a juried exhibit of works on paper to be held at Upstream Gallery, Hastings on Hudson, NY, June 21st – July 29th, 2018. Reception, Sunday, June 24th 2-5 pm. 

Eligible Work: Artists are invited to submit images of work on paper including collage, drawing, painting, printmaking, etc. All work should be originally created on paper. Photography submissions will be declined. We have a separate annual juried photography exhibition in February. 

Specifications: Two dimensional pieces must be suitably framed. Maximum framed size may not exceed 20 x 24 inches. Accepted pieces must be wired for hanging. The gallery reserves the right to reject poorly presented pieces

Juror: James Lancel McElhinney, is a visual artist, author, oral historian, and publisher. He is the recipient of a Pollock Krasner 2017 artist-grant. McElhinney attended Tyler School of Art (BFA Painting), Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and Yale University (MFA Painting). He has received numerous honors including a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. McElhinney is also a published author who has conducted numerous oral history interviews for the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, the Frick Center for the History of Collecting, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, other foundations and private individuals. 

McElhinney is listed on the Master Artist Council of the Arthur Miller Foundation. He is a skilled communicator with many years of experience in higher education, continuing education, teaching and administration. He has strong connections to the world of art, higher education, museums, and historic preservation.

Deadline for Entries, May 20th, 2018. All entries must be made via Submittable.

Entry Fee: $30 for one entry, $45 for two entries, $50 for three and $55 for four entries (maximum). The juror may select one, several, all, or none of your submissions. All pieces must be for sale. The gallery will retain a 30% commission on all sales.
